How has the coronavirus pandemic changed school transportation in your district?
Locally we've made a lot of changes to help ensure student safety during the pandemic. These include: - Masks being required on all school buses regardless of vaccine status
- Hand sanitizer being readily available on all buses
- Drivers being required to clean/disinfect buses between routes
- Students having assigned seats for contact tracing
One interesting thing to note is that my school district told parents early on that social distancing may not be practical on the buses. I live in an urban area and most bus routes were running near (or at) capacity before the pandemic hit. I'm sure that it is even worse now given the driver shortage.

February 25th, CDC announced no more masks on public buses and vans. Certainly is a benefit to many of us drivers and mostly for the students.
For us, we installed hand sanitizer units during then the 2020-2021 school year (originally automatic, battery operated models, now they are a Purell pump unit) and had masks in lunch bags to give to each bus/driver. Drivers were required to stop up at the office for more masks.
For most of last school year, we sprayed the buses with a chemical compound after the AM and PM routes. Towards the end, we didn't bother spraying anymore.
