Tennessee is an interesting state in terms of buses.
On one hand, district-owned fleets tend to adhere to an age limit of around twelve years old (from what I have heard). Good for those who like newer units in the fleet, but not great for those of us who appreciate the older models.
On the other hand, contracted fleets are all over the place! Eastern TN in particular is a hotbed for independent bus lines, with Knox County depending on 15-20 contractors. From what I can tell, state inspectors are pretty lenient when it comes to adhering to TN's state specs on contracted buses. This means that buses tend to show up from all over the map. Off the top of my head, I have seen contractor-owned buses from IN, KY, IL, NY, PA, WV, AZ, WA, MA, CT...and I know I am forgetting some...operating for Tennessee-based contractors.
Got any favorite fleets in the Volunteer State?
