I am uncertain yet, but Bricker Transportation (one of our local contractors) has sold/retired at least 10 buses this past year, and I hadn't seen any of their buses in the last few months, so I am starting to wonder if they may have gone out of business.

Ive been seeing a bunch of their stuff being sold at 422 these past few auctions. That B800 Thomas wasnt too bad. An exporter ended up with that.

It ended up going for around $2300 if I remember correctly. I was trying to bid on the mini buses for a contractor but they went for too much. I had too many purchases at the time so I didnt bid on it myself.

I work for a rafting company in the summer. All of our buses are retired school buses. Our oldest is a 1995 Thomas 3800 Mass. Spec with T444E,AT545, Hydro brakes, 72pass and backlit flip signs. We also run a 97 and 98 Thomas 3800, 99 Amtran 3800, 02 BB 3800, 2 01 BB FS-65s, an 02 and 03 Thomas FS-65 and oddly we have 3 (4th blew the motor) IC CEs with MF7s. Our fleet is a mix of Hydro and air brake. But basically motor wise we keep it to T444E, 5.9L Cummins and the MF7s. We did however retire a few buses this last year and we are considering retiring at least one of the BB FS-65s at the end of the season. We still have the old retired buses on the lot. Mix of 4 01 Thomas and 1 01 BB FS-65s, a 95 and 97 Thomas 3800, an old 91 BB 3800 and a 99 Amtran 3800. All the old ones are slated to be scrapped. They dont tend to sell them when retired except the 89 B700 Wayne I bought. lol

Anyone know when a school bus in New York has to be retired? Is there a law about it?

The oldest buses at Forest Hills Local Schools - the closest Ohio district to me and where I grew up - would be the '06 IC CEs. I remember when they were new! The last time I drove by their lot, the very last FS-65 was nowhere to be seen.
Across the river in Campbell County (KY) the oldest CEs are also '06 or '07 models, and most seem to be spares or parts units. I could have sworn I saw a couple of our older IC FEs heading to parts unknown on the back of a tow truck, after being parted out at the main bus lot.

For my local school district, 2023 is a major change for the fleet. The last contract for Durham School Services was too expensive to have for another couple of years; they left town after 8 years (July 2015-July 2023), so it was back to having our previous contractor, Dattco (Which we previously had from 2005-2015; after switching from First Student). As a result, we lost our 2022 & 2020 CEs, Shorty Visions, our remaining C2s, HDXs, & Minotours (Most of them went to neighboring North Providence to be used in their fleet). The contractors go to town every few years to bid for the cheapest contract and whichever wins gets to provide buses for the town.
All of those were replaced by CEs (2016, 2017, 2022, & 2024 Model Years; Built in 2015, 2016, 2021, & 2023 Respectively), REs (2019 Model Year {Built in 2018}; Ex-Westport CT Units), & Collins Nexbus DE416WR and DH516s (all Ex-Statewide Units). The first buses to be retired will be happening in possibily around 2025 (2 years into the current contract).
With Durham School Services; we retired most of our C2s in 2020-2021 (As they were 2008 Model Year buses that were first used in Johnston {Which then switched to First Student then back to Durham with CEs, Visions, Nexbuses, & Minotours}, then Burrillville {Then then switched back to Dattco in 2015 with the buses formerly used by my local school district; most of those are now retired since most of them were from before 2010}) and replaced with with CEs (The 2022 Shorty CE then replaced a Shorty Vision that then replaced a Shorty C2).
When we got Dattco again, we only ended up with 3 2022 Shorty CEs (and they all have the smaller wheels) and one from our previous contract (A 2015 Model).
We were supposed to replace a couple of buses but I was told before schools started again; it turned into going back to our old contractor; but with different buses.
After my local School District switched to Durham School Services; 2640 (2006 Shorty CE) (Originally Bus 21 then later used as a spare bus), 2642 (2006 Shorty CE) (formerly Bus 26, then used as a spare, then Bus 22), & 2648 (2006 Shorty CE Handy) (Formerly Bus 21) were last seen for sale a few years ago with all lettering and numbers stripped off the bus (Photos of the three can be seen on Flickr) and were of course, retired after around 10 years of use. The oldest bus in my school district now may be a 2015 Model year bus; my school district usually retires their buses when they're around 10 years old; with Durham, they were retired at 14-16 Years old depending on the condition of the bus.
Most of my school district's current buses were built in 2018-2023. Some a little older than that.
A neighboring school district (They use First Student and has been using them for years) up the road from my town got a lot of 2023 Thomas Built Buses C2 last year; all of the 2023 C2s they have have a black grill, black window frames, and tinted windows.
Most Rhode Island School Districts use contractors for buses (Cranston, Westerly, & New Shoreham {Both primarily use Blue Birds} are the only ones that operate their buses in-house). Glocester uses Hopkins Transportation & North Kingstown uses their own independent contractor. The rest are First Student (Which serves most of the state; also Statewide as well), Ocean State Transit (Which Serves around ten of the districts), Durham School Services (which serves four of the districts), & Dattco (which serves three of the districts; also Statewide as well).

One of our daycares up north had a S-1700 that they left to rot since at least 2007, they got rid of it earlier this year because it became a giant eyesore to them. Now it's in pieces at a local junk yard.
