I just came across an image of it so I wanted to ask while it's on my mind; flic.kr/p/2iYBnZXThe State of Kentucky Emergency Evacuation fleet. Have they ever been used for the purpose of Evacuation? Do they get moved? Does any other state have a fleet like this? From my understanding, the fleet was created due to Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP). Although I don't have much information, it sounds like there are aging chemical weapons being safely decommissioned at an army depot located in the county. This fleet exists if there was a need to evacuate the town/county. I don't think these buses are regularly used but it appears that they are maintained to some extent. It is interesting that the website says the estimate safe destruction for the weapons is to be completed this year. If this is true, I wonder if these buses will be auctioned or scrapped in the near future. Also worth noting, at least some of the emergency fleet has been auctioned off due to vandalism. harvestman might be able to elaborate a bit more since he's seen this fleet in person. madisoncountyky.us/index.php/emergency-management-home

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. It appears that buses in the emergency fleet are shuffled between schools every once in a while, perhaps annually. Recently Madison County has been putting their retirees directly in the fleet to replace some of the buses in disrepair.
One particular school has had a bunch of problems with the reserve fleet being vandalized on numerous occasions. The latest round of vandalism occurred about a year and a half ago, I believe, and resulted in a bunch of buses being yanked from the fleet (they are now being parted out on Facebook Marketplace).

Double-post here: for anyone receiving new Blue Birds, do you happen to know if Central States prepares all of them at their facility in Lexington, or one of their other locations? I ask because the Lexington location is comically small for a statewide bus dealer, and includes warranty work buses as well as new buses awaiting delivery. Wouldn't surprise me if they prepare them at one of the other Central States locations in the midwest and then just deliver them from there.

I don't know the answer but I would be interested in knowing this too.

Hooray for a new inventory update! My buddy Adam (Project681 to many of you) sent me a very odd Facebook Marketplace listing from Easley, SC today. One of Floyd Co.'s newer Visions was retired waaay before its time and is being sold as a storage shed...what was the deal here? Turns out this bus was a flood victim from a couple years ago and came from an insurance auction in Knoxville. Still extremely unusual to see such a new bus in that condition.

Some exciting news from my friend Chris at Walton-Verona: they are starting up a pilot program for First Light signs on the roofcaps and stop signs. W-V has already retrofitted one of their REs with the signs and it looks fantastic. Interested to see who else might go with this option.
Campbell County also has some clunkers on Govdeals - nothing worth writing home about, apart from one of their "bug-eye" C2s that had a blown turbo and was never repaired.

Good morning!
I went to the Nichols garage this morning and saw a few 22βs parked over there. Was told we got 10 22βs, theyβre International of course. Not sure where they are going to go yet, but they donβt look any different from the 21βs. I also caught wind that our rear engine buses, what I assume to be HDXs, will be here some time in May if anyone else wants to be on the lookout in the Louisville area.
I will try to get some pics of them when they come in, but I donβt have a fancy camera lmao. Theyβll be iPhone quality.

Wow I have a lot to catch up on... harvestman, do you have any photos of the W-V RE with the first light sign? I would love to see that! I'm starting to see these more often on buses in Southern Indiana (no pics sadly). I also wonder if this will pave the way for lit destination signs to be approve (even if optional) since they went away in 1987. Matt, I can't wait to see the new HDX's. I'm 99% sure these will be the only type D buses that JCPS has purchased outside of the Senators in 1992. Be sure to share some pics if you see them first!

This morning, while at work, I was at the garage again. Not sure why I keep leaving my office to go there, but that neither here nor there. I noticed they moved the 22βs so I decided to get on one and check it out.
Found out that they ordered them with cup holders in the typical IC spot(the driver compartment door, for those of you who donβt know). Was very shocked to see this as the C2βs are the only ones with cup holders.
I also saw that they moved the last 2 90 Wayne Internationals that they kept to keep old parts in. I got a pic of one of them as well as the 22.
Edit: I did upload the pics I got to my Flickr. Theyβre not the best, but I work with I got.
